Imaging Commands (from bash prompt)

To force the imaging menu to appear on boot - hold Ctrl + Alt on PXE Boot (1) You can then load the imaging prompt by selecting the appropriate menu option

To Start an image download

Set the Hard Disk DMA mode on to speed up the imaging process

# hdparm.s

Start image download

# img restorep imaging ///images/<name of image>
  • img (this is the imaging command)
  • restorep (this tells it to look at the server not a local disk, use restorel for local devices)
  • imaging (dns name for imaging server)
  • (1) Use with caution when around students for obvious reasons!

Once the imaging process has finished, type 'reboot' to restart the machine.

# reboot

Dealing with multiple partitions

#img restorep imaging <path to image file> a1:p1

where a1:p1 means overwrite the first partition on the first harddisk

Windows Setup

The machine will then go through the (semi) automatic process of detecting hardware devices and installing appropriate network software (client etc). After hardware detection, you will need to enter the name of the workstation (found in pen on top of the case - usually in the format of xx-xx or for admin ADMIN-xx

Enter the name (include any '-' in the name)

The machine will then continue to run the setup scripts (it will reboot several times)

Additional Tasks

Once the setup is complete the machine will be full functional, You may need to log-in and setup and addtional hardware or software required.

All drivers for hardware can be found on our T Drive
