Content Filter

There is also a content filter component which filters access to any websites which are considered to be even remotely fun or amusing. Oh, it also blocks porn and stuff aswell. Filtering rules can be overridden in the Sonicwall's management interface. The content filtering is a subscription based service.

Firewall

The sonicwall is a firewall that sits between the internet gateway router, the internal private network and the public DMZ.

The Sonicwall's firewall component filters traffic at the ip level. Three zones are defined (LAN, WAN and DMZ) and rules can be defined to control communication between any and all zones.

Communication comming out from the LAN is masqueraded (including communication to the DMZ), so any outbound LAN traffic will appear to come from the Sonicwall. (Also Known As NAT - Network Address Translation.)

The firewall is setup with default deny access control. For an up to date listing please login to the admin interface of the firewall.

Generally rules are setup to allow one service at a time between limited machines

A one-to-one NAT is configured for Zeus, this is restricted to pcAnywhere connections from Mondas.

Reporting

All log data is sent to nemisis-ii, which runs a service called Viewpoint. Viewpoint is an IIS based web application that has powerful searching and reporting features.

Backup

The sonic wall settings are saved to a file in T:\techfiles\Sonic wall\ , they can be imported through the sonic wall web interface.

The backup should be kept up to date - the settings should be exported at least once a quarter.
