Using Printer Properties Pro
With ppp (printer properties pro) we can automatically configure printer features (i.e. extra paper tray's, duplexing, memory, etc) when the printer is installed on the workstation.
This works by a client program (pppclient.exe) being run when the user logs in (currently in the user policy package). This client runs in the background and modifies the printer after it has been installed.
Setting up printer config
- Run the ppp admin program (start / technical applications / PCounter / Printer Properties Pro)
- Use the tree view on the left hand side to navigate to the printer you want to configure. (Note you may need to move up a level in the tree, by double clicking the red arrow)
- You have two tabs, one for ndps and for iprint. Choose the appropriate one.
- If the printer has not previously been set up you will need to click "enable".
- Click on "configure print properties"
- If the printer is not already installed on your machine it will ask you to do so (just click the button and follow the instructions, it uses the standard windows add printer wizard), then click the "continue configuration" button.
- You should now see the standard printer properties page, configure all the features and close the window and click the "continue.." button.
- Click apply (bottom right hand side panel)
- Configure any other printers
- Finally you need to copy the settings over to the client directory, which is in l:\learner\misc\ppp\. To do this select "tools" from the menu bar and "Distribute PPPro Client Packages to Remote Servers", you should find it has one path already configured, click the "Distribute Client Package" button in the bottom right hand corner.
