General
All configuration of the server and of the generic user settings are maintained in the Internet Services container (which can be found a the root of eDirectory).
Two tools are available to manage Netmail; NW Admin and Web Admin ( https://mail.varndean.ac.uk:444/ log in using full user name i.e. cn=sdw.ou=support.o=vsfc)
Email client settings
The server uses imap and smtp, both running on mail.varndean.ac.uk
To send email the email client must authenticate to the smtp service or have used an authenticated imap connection with in the last 10 minutes.
College address book
An address book is automatically generated once a day, by Netmail. This address book is accessible in Webclient, but can also be accessed via an LDAP connection from other email clients.
LDAP server = mail.varndean.ac.uk
LDAP port = 1389
All staff email address and others
All members of staff need to be added to the allstaff group in .email.internet.vsfc container, this group automatically maps to allstaff@varndean.ac.uk.
You can use groups to set up other email address groups, the IS Department has on called isdept in .email.internet.vsfc which automatically maps to isdept@varndean.ac.uk
New Users
Users created in the following containers, are automatically linked to the email system:
daytime.learner.vsfc
adult.learner.vsfc
staff.vsfc
support.vsfc
email.internet.vsfc
If the user is meant to be using email, then they will also need their user account associating with a Netmail Parent Object (set's up the standard settings for users). This is done by opening the user object and selecting Netmail Parent Object tab and finding the parent object in Internet Settings container.
Note Staff users need adding to the allstaff group in .email.internet.vsfc container or they will not receive email sent to allstaff@varndean.ac.uk
Disabling Users from using email
If you don't want the user to have email, then you need to open the user object and select the Netmail Configuration tab. Tick the disable user box.
Quotas
Should a staff user require more space in their mailbox, you need to specify the new amount on their user object. Select Netmail Configuration tab and set the new quota. (generally set it to 25000 if they need more than the standard)
Address Aliases
To set up address alias, go to Internet Settings / artemis and open Alias Agent object details.
Add your alias to the Global Aliases in the following format.
alias >> real username

If you believe a users mailbox has become corrupt, you can delete the index file for that mailbox. A new index is create automatically by the system.
User mailbox/calendar files are located \\artemis\sys\Novonyx\MAIL\users\username
Files ending with .box contain the actual emails
Files ending with .idx are the index of the related .box file.
Only delete the index files (.idx), the system will regenerate the index the next time the user accesses their email.
