Group Policy

Views:

Group Policy for Workstations and users is applied through policy objects in eDirectory and ZEN.

It's very important not to have more than one person working on Group Policy at a time!

When editing group policy settings, take great care - there is no undo button, all changes are saved.

The various settings available are determined by the ADM templates associated with each group of Group Policy settings.

The Group Policy settings are divided in to different groups and applied by the type of workstation and user. For example Staff or Student workstations, Staff, Student or Power Users.

Each group of settings is used in one user or workstation policy object.

The ADM templates are stored in SYS:group-policy on Athena. The templates are not shared between groups of settings. Each group has it's own subfolder.

The templates are typically found in the c:\<Windows|Winnt>\inf\ folder of a workstation. Where applicable you should take the templates from the appropriate machine, i.e. student policy = templates from a student PC.

If you find that you can't edit Group Policy through ConsoleOne, and you are sure that no one else is editing it, check if you have a C:\winnt\system32\gpinuse folder. If it's there, delete it and try to edit Group Policy again.
