Placing machine files
Remember to place the files for your virtual machines onto the local hard drive of your computer, other wise you'll find that your profile starts to get a little big! and you'll be spending even longer to login.
Also take into account where your VMware files will be placed on your HDD(the size of the files will be similar to a normal installation on a 'real' computer).
Configuring the installation
One of the major things that have to be changed when using VMware with linux installations, is the hot key combo to release come out of the virtual machine. To do this:
Edit->Preferences->Hot Keys
then change the keys to another combo other then ctrl and alt [this combo is needed for switching terminal screens etc in linux]
configuring machines
When configuring your virtual machine (whether this be creating a new machine or editing an existing one), you have a number of options.
CD drive
The virtual machine's cd drive can either be virtual or physical(connected to the local device). The virtual device will need to be pointed to an *.iso image; the physical can either be set as Auto detect or you can manually set which drive you want to use.
MAKE SURE that you select the 'connect at power on' option, as you may find that you cant use the drive!
